Once again, although the numbers were down slightly, this was quite a strong tournament. Michael Horstmann repeated his 2007 win after a struggle with Stephanus Kurniawan. Eugeniy Konovalov and Michael Wilkins both looked very dangerous at times but, perhaps, their lack of recent Chess was against them. Gordon Dunlop had another solid result, holding Stephanus Kurniawan to a draw in the last round to secure the U1850 prize. Guy Booth recovered from 3 straight losses at the start to win the U1600 prize. Chirag Saroha won the Junior prize, his excellent result included a draw with Eugeniy Konovalov. The DOP was Haydn Barber. There were 18 participants (14 adults, 4 juniors). |
