The 2014 State Lightning Championship was held at the North Woodvale Primary School on the 18th of May as an eleven round event. There were 24 players who had a challenging day of chess, as did the DOP attempting to fairly administer blitz rules. There were many situations where arbitration was required and in one case a game had to be replayed. I thank the players for graciously accepting the decisions of the DOP. The event was won by Yita Choong with a score of 10/11. Second place was won by Ihsan Ferozkohi with 9.5 who had the misfortune to leave his king enprise in the penultimate round. In third place was George Carolyn-Unkovich on a score of 8.0. The under 1900 division was won by Alex Janceski, Edik Gilmetdinov and Natalie Maris all sharing a score of 5.5. In the under 1500 division there was also a 3 way tie on the same score of 5.5. The winners were Ignatius Yap, Benjamin Hurst and Dylan Gough. Dylan is returning to chess tournaments after a long absence. The tournament start closely on time, thanks to most entries having been made before the day.
