2016 Gufeld Cup


The 2016 Gufeld Cup was held at Leeming Primary School on the first weekend in April (2nd & 3rd). There were 12 participants who had an enjopyable weekend with most games being closely fought and many running the full time. Gary Donaldson and Mick Naird travelled considerable distances from the country to participate in the event. Andreas Diller, from Germany, is a visitor to the State for a year and should participate in a few more tournaments.

The winner was Patrick Gong with a score of 5.5 from 6.0 after starting with a half point bye due to having other commitments. Lorenzo Escalante was unable to hold on being 2 pawns down with opposite coloured bishops and tied for second place with Ihsan Ferozkohi, both on a score of 4.0.

In the under 1800 section of the tournament three players tied on a score of 3.0. Ignatius Yap, Gary Donaldson and David Spatar.

Thank you to Andrew Hardegen for organizing the venue and to all the players for their participation and sporting behaviour over the chess board.
