2019 Perth Open

Played at Leeming Primary School on the 9th and 10th of February.


Twenty players braved the hot weather to participate in the CAWA Perth Open at the Southern Suburbs Chess Club on the weekend 9th and 10th February. While a few of WA's leading local players were missing this year, the tournament was still quite strong on the top boards.

The convincing winner with 5.5/6 was Sam Marin, a Canadian residing in Shenzhen, China and visiting Australia on holiday. Tim Hare shared 2nd place (4.5/6) with Jens Mueller, a German residing in London, who has returned to visit WA once more after having participated in this tournament in 2018. WA players look forward to opportunities to meet new players from interstate and abroad, and we hope to be able to welcome our visitors back at more Perth tournaments in the near future.
