The final rounds of the WA Closed and WA Reserves Championships were played on Sunday 30th August. My thanks go to all of you for playing and to everyone who contributed to the success of this year's Championships, especially: w Leeming Primary School, for making their venue available for us to use at a generously discounted rate for the 7-week duration of the tournament; w Chess Association of WA, for sponsoring the WA Chess Championships prize pool to the tune of approximately $1,000 each year; w The dedicated parents, for bringing their children to the tournament and picking them up every week, and in many instances, having to wait long periods of time for games to finish; w The many players who arrived early and stayed late each week to help set up and pack away chess equipment and furniture. The tournaments have been submitted for FIDE and ACF rating. Four players in the WA Reserves Championship -- Luciano Basso, Virudhagiri Muruganandam, Iker Hernandez Mendez and Yonal De Vas -- will gain their first FIDE standard ratings from this tournament. Well done to all of the winners. Perpetual trophies will be awarded at the CAWA Harris Interclub Competition, to be played on Sundays 13th and 20th September.
