Grand Prix awards are determined by accumulating points in each CAWA Grand Prix tournament. For classical tournaments points are awarded as follows: 1st = 24, 2nd = 20, 3rd = 16, 4th = 14, 5th = 12, 6th = 10, 7th = 8, 8th = 6 and participation = 2 (if no other points are scored).
For 2022, the CAWA Grand Prix will be made up of classical, rapid, allegro and blitz tournaments with points awarded in the ratio of 4: 3: 2: 1 so, for example, the winner of a classical tournament will gain 24 points, a rapid tournament 18 points, an allegro tournament 12 points and a blitz tournament 6 points. Participation points are only awarded for classical tournaments. All players are included in the Premier, all players Under 1850 will qualify for the Major, and all players Under 1550 for the Minor. Ratings are taken from the final rating list of previous year (for the 2022 Grand Prix the December 2021 ratings will be used). These ratings continue for whole year despite official periodic changes. The awards, known as the PAUL MEYER AWARDS, commemorate the life and work in chess of the late Paul Meyer. The awards seek to encourage regular participation and therefore will not necessarily be won by the best players in each category but by those who not only perform well but also, of equal importance, are prepared to front up regularly. The 2021 CAWA Grand Prix was a very successful series of tournaments, much needed after the difficult COVID affected 2020 series, when only four GP events were able to take place. The expansion to include allegro and blitz meant that there were 17 events and more than 180 people participated. The inaugural event was the Fringe Blitz which won a Fringe World community and special events award. Rebo Fu backed up his second-place finish in 2020 with a runaway win this year. He played in 14 events and dominated the allegro and blitz. Dylan Gough earned the reward for consistency, playing in all 17 events and winning the Major. Celine Ong came from a slow start, sitting precisely nowhere after 7 events, to win the Minor with one event to spare. Rebo Fu also took out the Junior title and well done to John Prince who made his way up from the South West to take part in 4 events and win the Country title.
