The 2021 WA Junior Allegro Chess Championships was held at North Woodvale Primary School on Sunday, 3rd October. Unlike the recent the Junior Rapid Play championship all players were grouped into one tournament. There was a total of 47 entrants. The Under 18s group was won by Yihe Fu (Rebo) with a perfect score of 9 from 9. This capped off an excellent couple of performances by Rebo having two days earlier won the Junior Rapid Play also with a 100% score. Shannoh Koh was second and Alex Pimenov was third. The Under 14s group was won by Aarnav Gupta with a very good performance. Aarnav came second overall. Second was Barath Harirajesh and third Issa Majidi. The Under 12s group was won by Liam Raptis another strong performance. Liam came third overall. Second was Anthony Nguyen and third Issa Majidi. The Under 10s group was won Eric Deng who had already won the Junior Rapid Play in the same age category. Second was Eamon Harris and third Hardy Dai. In the Under 8s, Senudi De Vas repeated her good performance at the recent Junior Rapid Play (Under 12s Girls Title) and won this age group. Closely followed by Kaviru Perera who was second. Third was Samantha Walker. The Girls title had four main contenders, Paula Gruber, Anoushka Gupta, Celine Ong, and Kobe Wu. Kobe got off to a slow start and only picked up towards the end. Conversely Paula started well but drew her last two games against Eamon Harris and Ishaan Barbare. Anoushka was going well but lost her last two games to her brother, Aarnav and Issa Majidi. Celine's win against Hardy Dai in the last round secured her the Girls title. Three players won the best checkmate competition: Yonal De Vas, Eamon Harris and Yihe Fu (Rebo). Special thanks to the Harris family who helped me set up the equipment the day before. Paul and Georgina Harris set up the Vega file and supervised the input of data.
