This division was specifically designed for our younger players with lower ratings who wanted to experience a Blitz tournament. Most of the players were Primary school students. This was a nine-round tournament which turned out to be a closely run contest between Jaswanth Ram Sethuraman and Daniel Bocancea. The game between them was very closely fought but Jaswanth kept a cool head under pressure and won on time by a few seconds. There were also strong performances from Lucas Lee, Bruce Yu and Dominic Davoll, (the only player to beat Jaswanth).
Under 800 Prize Winners:
1st: Jaswanth Ram Sethuraman (8/9), 2nd: Daniel Bocancea (7.5/9), =3rd: Lucas Lee, Bruce Yu & Dominic Davoll (6.5/9)
Special thanks to Paul Harris who acted as co-organiser and provided quick and colourful updates for each round, which considerably aided the smooth flow of the two tournaments. Thanks to Andrew Hardegen who provided me with some very useful advice on Vega prior to the tournament. Thank to David O'Shaunghessy who assisted in carrying the equipment to the car park at the end of the tournament. Last but not least thanks to the State Library whose Great Southern Room is an excellent venue for a chess tournament with air conditioning, a wall projector and an excellent view of the city from the 4th floor of the Library.
