The 2022 Perth Open was held at North Woodvale Primary School (Perth Chess Club) on 12th and 13th February. Changes in the FIDE Rating Regulations, in effect from January 2022, mean that games between players rated below 2400 FIDE with a time control of 60 minutes plus 30 second increment per move can now be rated using FIDE Standard ratings. In response to these changes, the CAWA Council decided that it would be viable to run the 2022 Perth Open as an ACF and FIDE rated event. The longer time control and the advertised prize fund of $2,400 were successful in attracting a large field of 43 players, with all rating divisions being well represented. The tournament benefited from the participation of GM Temur Kuybokarov who is to be congratulated for winning the tournament with a score of 6.0/6. Temur gained some useful over-the-board preparation against some of WA's other top players, ahead of his participation in Ballarat Begonia Open in March. Congratulations to all of the prizewinners.
