2015 Christmas Open

Played on the 28th & 29th of November.


The 2015 Christmas Open was held on 28th and 29th November at Leeming Primary School and attracted 22 participants. The tournament was won by WA Champion Yita Choong (5.5/6). In second place with 5/6 was Igor Butsenko, a recent arrival from Ukraine, whom we are pleased to welcome to the WA chess scene. The third prize was won by Australian Under 16 Champion Patrick Gong (4.5/6).

There was a wide range of playing strength, with 3 players rated over 2200. There were 7 juniors participating, as well as 4 new players who were competing in a CAWA weekender for the first time.

The tournament was played in the right spirit and there were no incidents to speak of.
