The 2018 Junior Allegro Championships was held as a 9 round swiss on Sunday 26 August at Leeming Primary School. 48 players participated on the day which was about the same number as the previous year. Brent Geronimo, one of WA's most promising junior players, won the tournament scoring 8.5/9. This included defeating U/12 Australian Junior Champion, Rebo Fu, in their top of the table clash. Brent was sitting on a picket fence score of 8/8 heading into the final round and only needed to draw his last round match to claim the title which he was able to do comfortably. Aidan Smith performed well throughout the tournament to finish on 7/9 and be awarded 2nd place in the U/18s. Rebo Fu finished on 8/9 and was awarded the U/14s title with Ben Hurst not far behind in second on 7. Harry Geronimo was awarded the U/12s title on 6.5 with Alex Pimenov and Isaac Quadros sharing 2nd place. The U/10s was a tighter affair and in the end a four way tie for first was shared between Iker Hernandez, Tom Freitag, Ishaan Barbare and Max Murray. Daniel Levin meanwhile had a pretty consistent day and was awarded the title for the U/8s. In the Girl's division, Celine Ong and Anoushka Gupta, both finished on 5/9 and were declared joint Girl's Allegro Champions for 2018. Apart from some withdrawals and a few players not attending, the tournament ran smoothly overall with minimal disputes.
