Congratulations to Southern Suburbs Chess Club who took out the Premier and the Major, and to the Indian community association MAWA who took out the Minor.
There were close contests, some great games, and notable achievements:
l Premier was won by SSCC who had it wrapped up by round 3 after taking a 3 - 0 Match Point lead. Perth rallied to take round 4 and make the final score 3 - 1 in Match Points.
l SSCC prevailed in the Major by 9 to 7 in the tie-break after the initial game point scores saw them tied 10 - 10 with Perth.
l MAWA prevailed in the Minor over SSCC when a count back to the preliminary round scores gave them a 9 to 7.5 win after the final was tied 2 - 2.
l Merson King scored 4/4 for MAWA in the Minor, while father and son team of Hui Lam Teh and Rui Gen Teh also scored 4/4 in the Major and Premier, respectively.
l Seven-year-old Carter Kerr toiled away on board 1 in the Premier and notched up a fine win over 2100 rated Marc Vlietstra in the final round.
Thank you to everyone who took part, and we look forward to seeing you next year.
