The Open division (a combined Under 16 and under 18 group) consisted of 17 players. This tournament became a neck and neck race between the two highest rated players, Oscar Gao and Iker Hernandez Mendez. They drew their game and won the rest of their games, giving them total score of 6.5 from 7. This meant they went into a playoff under the same format as that of the Under14s. Iker and Oscar drew their Allegro round and then Iker won the Blitz round. So, Iker became the State Junior Champion and Oscar had to settle for the Under 16s title.
There was also a closely fought battle for the Girls State Championship between Paula Gruber and Kobe Wu. Going into the last round Kobe on 3.5 points played Iker and Paula Ablai Levine. The Blitz Championships had 53 players ranging in age from 18 to 6. The winner was Iker Hernandez Mendez with 9 points from 11. Second with 8.5 points was Eric Deng who won the Under 14s title.
The WA Girls' Blitz Championship was decided by playoff between Kobe Wu and Anoushka Gupta. After the first two Blitz rounds, the score was 1-1, so an Armageddon game was required to determine the winner.
