2024 WA Junior Allegro Chess Championships

The 2024 WA Junior Allegro Chess Championships (7 Round Swiss - 15min + 2s per move) was played on the 7th April at North Woodvale Primary School.

The 2024 WA Junior Allegro Chess Championships was held on Sunday, 7th April at North Woodvale Primary School with 69 players participating. This was a record attendance for this event. As was the case in previous years there was only one tournament with no division of tournaments, according to age.

This 7 round Swiss tournament produced many closely fought games, none more so than the playoff for the Girls Allegro Championship.

Ashvin Balavignan won the State Junior Champion title with a score of 6.5 from 7. He drew with Chintushig Chinbat. Chintushig came second with 6 points. Third in the Under 18s was Niki Hashemitaba with 5 points.

Anthony Nguyen was first in the Under 15s with a score of 6 points with one loss to Chintushig. Second in the Under 15s was Liam Raptis with a score of 5 .5 and third was Sam Melbin with 5. All good achievements in a strong tournament. Leo Gong won the Under 12s with an excellent score of 5.5. Second was Yuqi (Ricky) Huang on 5 and third was Ram Jaswanth Sethuraman on 4.5. Inga Kim won the Best Girls Under 12s with 3.5

Bao Ho won the Under 10s with a score of 4.5. Kaviru Perera had the same score but a lower Buchholz which meant he was second. Third was Jet Mahanidis with 4.

Zeno Brackenbridge won the Under 8s with 4 points. An excellent score for such a young player. Second also on 4 points was Andrew Low, (lower Buchholz score). Third with 3 points was Gleb Orlov.

The Girls championship was decided by a playoff as two players, Niki Hashemitaba and Nithiuli Liyange both finished with 5 points. The two Blitz games ended up with shared points so it was down to the wire with one Armageddon game which Nithuli won making her the Girls Allegro Champion. An exciting finale to the tournament.
